Sally is a Bath-based artist who trained at the Bath School of Art And Design. Since graduating in 2003 Sally has exhibited across the UK including The Discerning Eye Exhibition, Mall Galleries, London and with The Bath Society of Artists. She is well known for her distinctive portraits, animal paintings and landscapes and in 2010 she won the Holburne Portrait Prize with a portrait of the comedian Bill Bailey and his cat.
Sally’s paintings have loose, expressive brush strokes that capture the essence of her subjects with an economy of mark-making, giving them both a directness and freedom. Her landscape paintings are often inspired by her travels or the starting points come from literary sources such as ‘Mockuncle Hill’ from Cold Comfort Farm.
In 2014 Sally created ‘A Dog a Day’ – prints and paintings of dogs created by the artist, one a day for a year. These were put on display as a solo exhibition at the Pound Arts Centre in Corsham in the Spring 2015.
Quercus Gallery is delighted to be showing a selection of Sally’s landscape paintings and dog studies in our Late Summer Show 29 August – 26 September 2015.
